The WireGuard tunnel: a VPN on your French mobile IP
FRProxy's optional VPN on a French mobile IP: the whole device exits through the SIM, WebRTC included. What it fixes, and what it costs.

Alongside our HTTP and SOCKS5 proxies, every mobile source can also be exposed as a WireGuard tunnel: a lightweight VPN that routes all your traffic, UDP included, through the same 4G/5G card. Here's what it is, how it differs from a classic proxy, its advantages, its limits, and how to turn it on.
What is a WireGuard tunnel?
WireGuard is a modern VPN protocol, known for being simpler and lighter than OpenVPN or IPsec. At FRProxy, a WireGuard tunnel sits on a real French 4G/5G SIM, exactly like a proxy: same mobile IP, same carrier, same rotation. The difference is how traffic gets in. A proxy only relays what you explicitly send it, a browser or tool configured with the proxy's IP:port. A WireGuard tunnel, once turned on, captures all traffic leaving the device at the operating-system level, like any consumer VPN, but backed by a real French mobile IP.
How is it different from a classic HTTP/SOCKS5 proxy?
A proxy works app by app: you enter its address in your browser, automation tool or anti-detect browser, and only the traffic you explicitly point at it goes through the mobile IP. That's ideal for isolating profiles (one proxy = one account), but it leaves a blind spot: Chrome and Firefox never send their WebRTC traffic (used for video calls, and read in the background by many anti-fraud systems) through a SOCKS5 proxy. That UDP traffic always leaves directly over your real connection: proxy configured or not, your real IP can be exposed. WireGuard closes that blind spot differently: it's not an app-by-app redirect, it's a full network interface. Once connected, both TCP and UDP leave through the tunnel, no exceptions, WebRTC included. In short: a proxy protects what you hand it, a VPN protects the whole device.
Advantages
- UDP that actually works: WebRTC, DNS, QUIC/HTTP-3 all go through your mobile IP; no more WebRTC IP leak, the one thing a proxy can't fix.
- Whole-device coverage: once the tunnel is on, every app exits through the mobile IP, not just the one you configured with a proxy.
- Same IP, same trust: the tunnel uses the same mobile source as a proxy: identical trust score, no extra infrastructure to trust.
- Simple setup: scan a QR code in the WireGuard app on mobile, or import a config file on desktop; no per-app settings to fiddle with.
- IP rotation included: the same rotation mechanism as your proxies applies to the tunnel, via a dedicated link.
Drawbacks
- Small speed overhead: WireGuard's encapsulation slightly reduces the usable packet size (MTU): around 5% slower than a proxy on the same link, in our measurements.
- One tunnel = one device at a time: unlike a pool of dedicated proxies (one per profile/account), a WireGuard tunnel covers the whole device it runs on; it's not the right tool to isolate dozens of anti-detect browser profiles.
- Needs a dedicated client: you need the WireGuard app (free, available on every platform) rather than plain host/port fields in existing software.
- Not an anonymity guarantee: the tunnel fixes the WebRTC leak and makes UDP work, but a careful observer can still spot the signature of a VPN tunnel (a different MTU than a direct connection), true of any VPN.
Setup guide, in 3 steps
- In your account (
/app), find your WireGuard tunnel card, next to your proxies. - On mobile: install the WireGuard app (App Store / Play Store), then scan the QR code shown in the panel. On desktop: download the
.confconfiguration file and import it into the WireGuard client (Windows, macOS, Linux). - Turn the tunnel on: all your traffic now exits through your French mobile IP. Need a new IP? The same rotation button as your proxies works here too.
FAQ
Does the WireGuard tunnel replace my proxy?
No, they're complementary. A proxy remains the right choice to isolate profiles one by one (multi-accounting, anti-detect browser): one proxy = one account. The WireGuard tunnel matters when you need the whole device to exit through the mobile IP, or when UDP (WebRTC, QUIC) genuinely needs to work, something a SOCKS5 proxy can't guarantee with a browser.
Does IP rotation work on the tunnel too?
Yes. The tunnel uses the same mobile source as any proxy on the same device: rotating the IP changes the connection at the root, so the tunnel and any proxy sharing that source change IP together.
Do I need technical skills to set it up?
No. On mobile, scanning a QR code is enough. On desktop, it's just importing a configuration file into the official WireGuard app (free): no command line required.
